CHIRNSIDE Park mum Erin Mallinder coined her own phrase when first becoming a mum — four wall-itis, where you feel trapped inside your house with your little one.
But all that changed this year when she signed up as the Mamma Knows East guru, to spruik parent-friendly places in Maroondah, Yarra Ranges and Manningham.
It’s an online platform sharing cafes and parks, as well as conversation between local parents. It also has a Facebook presence.
Ms Mallinder said since taking on the role, she had gotten in touch with her creative side again and started uncovering the east.
“There’s only so many times you can listen to The Wiggles at home,” she said.
“Sometimes when you’re stuck in those four walls, just going to the park with someone else means so much.
“And also it helps me stay creative by sharing these things.”
The concept started with Mamma Knows West, by Mandy Couzens and Sammi Dobinson about two years ago.
It’s designed to support mums in the area and promote activities otherwise unknown.
Ms Mallinder said it had been great to spend time in the community with daughter Eliza, 18 months.
“We want to inspire people to try and do things with their family and make community connections,” Ms Mallinder said.
“It’s like an online mum’s group where people can chat and find out about things, all when you’re sitting on your couch.”
