THREE siblings have rallied to support their mum at the family’s Ferntree Gully fish and chip shop after the unexpected death of their dad.

Makos Fish and Chips owner Mario Theodoulou, who ran the shop with his wife Stavroula, died after suffering a heart attack in February.

The couple’s children Anthony and Michael Theodoulou and Eleni Asimakis have stepped in to help their mum at the shop.

The store offers traditional fish and chips, souvlaki, steak sandwiches, fresh prawns, and a gluten-free menu. Everything is made fresh daily.

“Mum is very well known for her fresh potato cakes; they are sliced, peeled, cooked and battered every day,” Ms Asimakis.

The store is coming third in the Australian Fish & Chips Awards and Ms Asimakis said a win “would mean so much”.

Public voting closes June 30, with winners announced July 21.

The store is at 1015 Burwood Highway.
