An award-winning Yarra Valley estate that once hosted world-renowned broadcaster and biologist David Attenborough has hit the market, with the two best friends who transformed the location calling the decision to sell “bittersweet”.
The Steels Creek Rd property hit the market in May with an asking price of $3.75m-$4.05m.
Lisa Chapman and Suzanne Theodor opened Eden Yarra Valley on Christmas Eve in 2020, after extensive renovations to the Yarra Glen estate.
“It was a run-down bed and breakfast when we purchased the property, and had a vision to turn it into luxury accommodation,” Ms Chapman said.
“It was an absolute labour of love to polish every inch of the space to be the best it can be.”
Ms Chapman said the estate was filled with memories from the recycled chandelier installed in the bridal suite to the unique basins in the bathrooms created by the former owner of the estate, potter Ted Secombe.
“It is like a baby, we created a life and nurtured it and you just want to keep looking after it,” she said.
“It is more than just a business to us.
“But it is time to move on to other business interests, to slow down, semi-retire and travel more.”
The best friends — who met in a mother’s group more than 17 years ago — said they were hoping for a “seamless transition” for the new owners who want to continue the legacy of the estate.
A legacy which includes winning the silver award in the 2024 Victorian Tourism Awards.
The property — which has hosted David Attenborough and his news crew while they filmed the lyrebirds in Sherbrooke — is nestled in the heart of the Yarra Valley winery and event scene.
It can host up to 30 guests spread across a five bedroom residence, two private chalets and a third building with three further suites.
The estate also boasts a fully equipped commercial bar, a large formal dining room, a Mediterranean-inspired heated pool and botanical gardens.
The formal dining room also doubles as an event space which has been used to host retreats, micro-weddings, milestone birthdays and other events.
Despite the sale, Ms Chapman said it will be “business as usual” for wedding and guest bookings at Eden.
“Making the decision to sell was both difficult and bittersweet, given how much time, energy, love and money has been poured into the property and the business since day one,” she said.
“But it’s now time to pass the baton on the next owners to continue the Eden legacy we’ve created.”
