A pair of teens drove an allegedly stolen car into a Lilydale petrol station only to be spotted by eagle-eyed police at the cop shop next door.

Officers at the Lilydale police station were clued up to the alleged car theft after a report came through at midnight that a Kia Sorento had been stolen from a Cruz Court, Yarra Glen property.

Victoria Police Senior Constable Alistair Parsons said officers, who were working at the Albert Hill Rd police station, saw the car drive into the 7-Eleven through the watch house window, and went next door.

Sen-Constable Parsons said police arrested the passenger — an 18-year-old Burwood woman — before the driver sped off in the Kia.

Police monitored the car until it was dumped just after 1am in York St, Eltham.

Senior Constable Parsons said an 18-year-old Ringwood woman, hiding in a Mulberry Court back garden, was arrested a short time later.

He said the woman was taken to hospital as a precaution with a pre-existing medical condition.

The Burwood teen remains in custody and police expect to charge her with car theft.
