The community will gather to pay tribute to beloved Mooroolbark footy and cricket player Kynan Jones at a funeral service later this week.
Kynan, 17, has been remembered as a great friend, teammate, brother, and son after his shock passing on October 22.
In a funeral notice, Kynan was described as a beloved son of Bryn and Emma, brother of Shayla and Camdyn and “mate to us all”.
In a tribute on Facebook, Mooroolbark Football Club said Kynan had played at Mooroolbark since 2013 and the Jones family had been involved in the club for many years.
“Kynan was a part of our under 17’s team this year – he played 112 games in the green and gold,” the club said.
“But it was his cheeky smile and always having a laugh or a joke with teammates, coaches and supporters that we’ll always remember.”
Kynan also volunteered his time to run water for the seniors’ boys.
“We just loved having him part of it,” the club said.
“You were a great friend, teammate, brother, and son. You’ll be missed by a lot of people around our club, but never forgotten.”
The club encouraged anyone that was struggling with the passing of Kynan or anything in life to reach out to the club’s chaplain or chat to anyone at all.
Mooroolbark Cricket Club is also mourning the loss of Kynan.
“A young man, with an infectious personality, Kynan brought so much laughter and joy to everyone he met at the club, and in life in general,” the club posted.
“To Bryn, Emma, Shayla and Camdyn, our collective hearts go out to you. We are always here for you.
“Kynan possessed an energy around the club, where you couldn’t help but smile while around him.
“He may not have lit up the training track on the field, but off it, he did some of his finest work.
“A jokester, a teammate, a mate, a brother, a son. We will miss him greatly.”
An online tribute said: “Today we lost another young life at only the ripe age of 17 a beautiful boy Kynan Jones.
“He was loved by so many and this loss has impacted many people.
“Kynan was so kind and caring to all those that he knew and would always go above and beyond and I feel it is only fit to offer support to his family through this incredibly sad time.”
