A much loved Knox bakery on the edge of the Dandenongs has been crowned by readers as the best in the area.

The Basin Bakery topped Leader’s poll ahead of eight other finalists, with Bayswater’s Grant’s Crust Sourdough Bakery and Scoresby’s Huey’s Bakehouse tying for second.

Staff member Abbey Blake said the bakery was chuffed to receive such strong community support in the poll.
“We know all the customers and most of them are locals,” she said.

“The owners work so hard so its really great for them to be rewarded in this way.”

The bakery has been owned by Fiorella and Mario Catalano for the past 12 years and is popular for its sausage rolls and family pies.

Ms Blake said sweet treats including vanilla slices, doughnuts and custard tarts were also popular, while children loved its smiley faces and star biscuits.

She said the bakery had a tight-knit team enjoyed providing a warm and friendly atmosphere.

“This is a really fun place to work, everyone gets along really well and the staff are really tight,” Ms Blake said.
