A Knox crossing-supervisor was overjoyed to think she’d scored $8000 in Saturday’s TattsLotto draw — before she discovered she’d actually won almost $1 million.
The semiretired woman’s ticket won the coveted division one in TattsLotto draw 3903 on Saturday, December 15, as well as division three 12 times, and division four 15 times, leaving her $995,617.34 richer.
“You have no idea of the surprise,” the woman said.

The lucky winner said she was very close to not buying the ticket as she usually did.
She only bought the winning ticket the day before the draw, after checking her unsuccessful tickets from the previous draw at Knox Central Lotto at Knox Shopping Centre in Wantirna South.
“I said ‘Oh well, that’s it. I give up,’ and the girl behind the counter said ‘You’ve got to be in it to win it — do you want your usual ticket?’
“I said ‘Oh, go on then,’ and then here we are. That’s my advice to anyone — don’t give up.”
And when she went to see the result this morning, the newsagent attendant told her she’d won big and would have to claim her prize elsewhere.
The winner checked her numbers online and thought she’d won $8000.
It was only when she went to claim her prize that she realised how big her win had actually been.

She said the new cash would come in handy for her retirement with her husband.
“I’m a crossing supervisor but you don’t really do that for the money, you do it for the love of it.”
She said they would use the money to visit their family in Queensland.
And an understated celebration is on the menu for tonight.
“We are heading out for tea tonight with a friend. We’ll probably still just get the seniors special.”
