“But there was nothing sighted and nothing to indicate there was a bomb, it was just some words that were spoken,” Sgt Preston said.

“No suspicious packages or anything like that were found.”

He said the man — a 33-year-old from Knoxfield — was arrested, interviewed and released pending further investigation.

He said the man may have had mental health issues.

On Knox Leader’s Facebook page, Suzy Strati said she was there when the pool was evacuated.

“No one knew what happened,” she said.

“Some said scheduled evacuation, others said some sort of leak.

“But it was actually a bomb treat (sic). A staff member called me to tell us and check if we were OK.

“Everyone had to stand outside in the cold with bathers on. I left.”

Victoria Police media officer Natalie Savino said emergency services were called to a leisure centre in Tormore Rd, about 11.15am and the centre was evacuated as a precaution.

Ms Savino said safety checks were conducted and the area was declared safe and reopened to the public a short time later.

The centre referred Leader’s questions to Knox Council, which said it couldn’t provide further comment.
