FASHIONISTAS are raving about the new Eastland redevelopment, which has brought inner city style to Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

People travelled from all over the region to be part of the opening day, including Madison Lee-Royle, 17, from Woori Yallock. “It’s so nice to have new shops and everything is awesome,” she said.

“It looks really good and different.”

Alana Burns, 24, of Box Hill said it was worth the trip.

“There’s been a lot of hype around this and it’s great to see the city in the suburbs,” she said.

Her cousin, Ashlee Burns, 26, plans to visit the centre frequently.

“I love the outside restaurants and all the shops,” she said.

“H & M is what I’m most looking forward to though.”

Mum Sheridan Furey, 32, of Ringwood said the transformation was extraordinary.

“I remember the really old Eastland so this is quite something,” she said.

“It will be great to have lunch out here in the summer.”

Fellow Ringwood resident Bronwyn Williams, 66, said she was excited about the outdoor space, which includes the new business and cultural centre Realm and several high-end eateries.

“It’s been a long wait but it was worth it,” she said.

The hit of the day has been H & M, with one worker saying the store was swamped with shoppers.

Earlier, hundreds of frenzied shoppers queued to get a first glimpse of the redeveloped centre at stores such as David Jones and Target, as well as new additions UNIQLO and H & M.
