A man who was allegedly a former worker at a Rowville window and door factory which went up in flames overnight has been arrested.
Police arrested a 59-year-old Boronia man on Wednesday night following the blaze at Nordic Windows and Doors on Henderson Rd.
Fifteen crews and 24 firefighters rushed to tackle the fire which broke out at 8.48pm and was brought under control within 20 minutes.
Firefighters remained on site to put out any spot fires overnight and handed the scene over to police, who called in the arson squad to investigate on Thursday morning.
The Boronia man was taken to hospital under police guard after he was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
Nordic’s owner, Piejun Xia, said he was devastated to see the damage to his factory after working for eight years to build up the business.
Mr Xia said the factory was thankfully covered by insurance after the fire destroyed stock and caused significant damage to its office and roof.
“It’s more serious than I thought,” he said.
“It’s definitely not a happy thing, but we have to be tough and face it and try to get over it and do something better in the future to prevent this happening again.”
The man has been charged with attempted burglary, criminal damage by fire and burglary with the intent to damage.
He was set to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Any witnesses to the fire or anyone with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
