It was a bridge too far for many years, but work is finally set to start on a vital road link in Rowville.
After being on the drawing board for decades, construction of the $6.5 million Henderson Rd bridge will begin this month.
The 67m bridge over Corrhanwarrabul Creek will connect Rowville to Knoxfield and provide a vital second north-south road crossing, taking pressure off Stud Rd.

Aston federal liberal MP Alan Tudge said the project was one of his election commitments and he was glad to see work underway.
“The bridge has been on the map of Knox for decades as an idea, and with $6 million of federal funding, it will be finally built and delivered,” he said.
Knox Council has appointed contractor Bitu-mill Civil Pty Ltd to construct the bridge.
Preliminary work is being done to remove two power poles to clear the way for construction to start later this month.
Mr Tudge said the bridge would be built by October.
The council contributed $500,000 towards the project.
Knox Mayor Jake Keogh said the bridge would go a long way towards improving traffic congestion in Rowville and would provide a much-needed connection between Rowville and Knoxfield that would benefit neighbours and local industry.
Cr Keogh said council had also recently submitted a list to VicRoads of other road projects it wanted funding for, including the Dorset Rd extension between Napoleon Rd and Lysterfield Rd, and traffic lights at the intersections of Kelletts Rd and Henderson Rd, and Boronia Rd and Lewis Rd.
