Move over wannabe mullet growers — Heathmont’s newly-minted national mullet champion Paul Gee has well and truly got you covered.
Mr Gee, 66, has grown his hair since the 70s and it goes all the way down to his backside.
His decades of growing and craftsmanship paid off when he won the vintage category at the championship and was also crowned the overall winner of Mulletfest in Kurri Kurri, NSW late last month, which attracted nearly 250 entrants.
Mr Gee said he was confident about his chances at the mullet mecca based on the interest his locks get when he’s shopping.
“If I’m at the supermarket checkout, people comment on it, give it a tug or whatever,” he said.
“Most of the time I’m not aware people are gawking at me, but I’m pretty sure they would because I’m a pretty handsome rooster.”
Mr Gee said he put his hair in a ponytail at work as it was “not feasible to have it flapping in the wind”.
He has visited his hairdressers at The Head Shed in Heathmont weekly for almost 30 years to keep it in top condition.

Mr Gee’s top tip for aspiring mullet growers was to remain dedicated to their cause.
“I go to a hairdresser weekly, that’s a significant statement, and there’s no product in it whatsoever,” he said.
“Melbourne and Heathmont are the entertainment capitals — and now we have this prestigious title for the next 12 months.”
