Heathmont’s Branka and Skinny Misic launch food menu at their cafe Never Regular
A Heathmont couple has bought a sushi shop around the corner from their house — and transformed it into a chilled-out coffee oasis with simple dishes.

A Heathmont couple have taken over an old sushi shop near their house and want to turn it into the ultimate place for coffee lovers.
Branka and Skinny Misic opened their cafe Never Regular in mid-July in a small group of shops on Great Ryrie St.
The duo are very much entrenched in the area — they live around the corner from the cafe and their son goes to nearby Great Ryrie Primary School.
“We live just down the street, we’d always look at it (the shop) and thought wouldn’t it be great to open a cafe there,” Branka said.
“He (Skinny) has been in hospitality forever and helped people open cafes and up their coffee game. He’s always wanted his own cafe and it’s very much his baby.”
“We’ve got a lot of friends from the community who are really happy, they’re like, ‘finally someone’s opened a cafe in this street’, which is really encouraging.”
The couple started out selling coffees and cold drinks and launched their food menu last week.
It has only six items, with dishes including avocado on toast and scrambled eggs for early risers, and mushroom and pesto spaghetti for a lunchtime feed.

Skinny said the small menu allowed him and his wife to focus on speedy service and making great coffee — using Mikro beans.
He said the beans were a lighter blend compared with typically darker ones used at other cafes.
“It’s good vibes only — nice coffee and value for money, that’s it,” he said.
“Less dishes means less preparation, and it means faster service and its fast, yummy and presentable.”
Despite the cafe’s minimal approach, Branka said they had future plans for an outdoor dining area at the back and a liquor license.
“People say you need to get things on the wall and a sign out the front, but we’re about keeping it as minimal as we can,” she said.
“We’re not competing with anyone, we’re just doing our own thing and doing quality coffee.”
Never Regular is at 72 Great Ryrie St, Heathmont and is open weekdays (except Tuesday) from 7am-2pm and weekends from 8am-2pm.
