One of the Yarra Valley’s largest and most historically important hotels is on the market at the gateway to wine country.

Healesville’s The Grand Hotel, which dates back to 1888, is going to auction on October 25 with an estimated price of $4 million.

Set on the Maroondah Highway in the heart of town, the three-storey hotel has a public bar, grand dining room and bistro, commercial kitchen, beer garden, drive-through bottle shop and 16 refurbished rooms.

It is one of the area’s largest hotels, designed by architect William Pitt whose other works include National Trust classified properties, the Rialto building on Collins St, the St Kilda Town Hall, and Victoria Brewery.

CRE broker Kevin Connolly said the owners recently renovated the rooms to a high standard, which were regularly booked out.

Mr Connolly said the tenants secured a 30-year lease — with five-year options — that started in February.

According to the CRE website the rent is $208,000 per annum.

“It’s a traditional pub with accommodation,” Mr Connolly said.

“It had a significant architect and is aptly named The Grand.”

He said the owners were looking to relocate interstate, which is why they were selling the hotel.

“They did a fantastic renovation job,” he said.

“It’s a pub that offers a variation of income streams with the only drive-through bottle shop in town.

“It has nicely renovated accommodation, a grand dining room, a good bar with fire place and a beer garden.”
