IF you’re looking for the best burgers in Australia, you don’t have to travel far.
The creations from Ferntree Gully’s On It Burgers have been named Australia’s best by users of home-delivery service Menulog.
The Burwood Highway venue took out the most popular burger award based on customer reviews.
On It Burgers founder Tony Plunkett said the title followed a surge in people wanting their burgers on demand.
Mr Plunkett said the store was set up as a pilot in January 2015 and added the delivery option in September last year.
They now have up to 12 drivers at a time transporting their freshly cooked creations across the outer east.
“It’s just exploded,” Mr Plunkett said.
“We have a drive-through which isn’t open to the public — it’s just for our drivers.”
But people can go into the restaurant to order burgers.
Mr Plunkett, a former McDonald’s executive, opened the store at the site of a “failed KFC”.
He said the aim of the company was to differentiate itself from fast-food competitors by offering quality ingredients with unique combinations, such as bacon jam.
One of their popular burgers is named The Nod (You Won’t be Speaking), which has two beef patties, two slices of American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, crunchy onion rings, bacon jam and extra smoky sauce.

The other key point of difference is the $5 flat fee delivery for anyone who lives in the catchment area stretching from Glen Waverley to Mooroolbark and to Endeavour Hills.
Mr Plunkett recently opened a second store in Abbotsford and expects the chain to continue expansion.
“The idea of getting food that’s hot and fresh right into people’s homes — people are fanatical about that. It’s becoming cult-like.”
