Ferntree Gully unit fire: Children, mum escape Conn Ct blaze

Four people had a lucky escape from a raging fire that engulfed their Ferntree Gully unit.

A unit has ben badly damaged while young children had to be treated by paramedics after a fire in Ferntree Gully.

The fire broke out at 9.45am on Conn Ct, near Mountain Gate Shopping Centre.

Ferntree Gully CFA incident controller Todd Small said four people were inside the house at the time of the fire but escaped uninjured.

Mr Small said the fire ripped through part of the house with a bedroom and hallway and garage severely damaged.

Five firefighting units responded to the incident and brought the fire under control within 20 minutes.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics assessed two preschool-aged girls, a woman in her 40s and a man in his 20s following the fire.

No one required treatment or transport to hospital, and police tape was placed around the entrance to the home.

Mr Small said CFA investigators and police would remain on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
