Dorset Gardens Hotel: Two injured in alleged machete attack at Croydon pub

A man is recovering in hospital following an alleged fight in a Croydon pub carpark, which involved two groups and a machete.

A man is recovering in hospital after he and a friend were allegedly set upon by a group of up to 10 people and attacked with a machete in a Croydon pub carpark.

Maroondah detective Senior Constable Paul Kermack said the incident took place when the two men were leaving the Dorset Gardens Hotel in Croydon about 11pm on Friday.

Sen-Constable Kermack said the two men and another group of about six-to-10 people began yelling at each other, leading to a confrontation.

The two men were then attacked by the larger group, with the two of them allegedly in possession of a machete and a beer bottle.

Sen-Constable Kermack said police responded following a call from hotel staff, but the alleged group of attackers had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.

A Wandin North man, 29, suffered a broken ankle and was taken to Maroondah Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

A Croydon man believed to be in his early 30s, suffered bruises but did not attend hospital for treatment.

Sen-Constable Kermack said investigations were ongoing and officers were trying to obtain CCTV footage of the incident, and working to identify members of the group who fled the scene.

Any witnesses or anyone with information can phone Maroondah detectives on 9870 3100 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The hotel has been contacted for comment.
