Croydon’s new Town Square is set to miss another deadline — but it will have a quirky feature when it finally opens.

Maroondah Leader understands the square will have its own mini clocktower, featuring a clock dedicated to the Rotary Club of Croydon.

The clock will be installed on a 3m structure facing Main St.

The club and Maroondah Council will fund the project to ensure Rotary maintains a presence at the site.

The club had a community meeting room and toilets at 97 Main St, which were demolished for the square.

Rotary Club of Croydon president Stephen Bode said the group was meeting with the council today to further discuss the project.
“They thought a clock could be a useful item and fit in with their design,” Mr Bode said.

“If we get can get the Rotary name out there again, it would be of great benefit to the club in attracting new members and continuing our great work for the community.”

Maroondah Leader understands the square is set to open on April 9, two weeks after its revised completion date.

The $2 million project was originally meant to be finished in November last year.
But when construction began in August, the council pushed back the completion date to March 31, blaming “site complexities”.

The square will feature pockets of open space for visitors to relax in, along with a $100,000 Changing Places all-abilities toilet.

The council did not respond to questions about the clock and the square’s completion date.
