Staff and a customer getting a feather inked on his leg ran for their lives after a car smashed into a tattoo parlour in Melbourne’s outer east.
Emergency services rushed to Croydon’s Eastern Tattoo and Piercing at 11.15am on February 20 after a black Toyota ploughed into the back corner of the shop, located on Pierson St at the entrance to the Croydon Town Square.
It is believed the driver, a woman in her 50s, was pulling out of the carpark opposite the parlour when the incident occurred.
She was assessed by paramedics but did not sustain any serious injuries, while firefighters from Croydon, Ringwood and Nunawading and local police also assisted at the scene.
Staff member Jen Carlyon said she was about to tattoo a feather on a male customer’s leg when the car hit the building.
Ms Carlyon said she was a 1m away from potentially being hit and injured.
“There was a massive bang, we heard the tyres screeching outside and thought someone was coming through the wall,” she said.
“Then we saw the bricks and we just got out … and the guy (the customer) jumped up and ran away.
“It was pretty full on and there was smoke everywhere.”
The woman’s car was towed and the shop will close to undergo a structural assessment.
