A stunning Mt Evelyn wedding reception venue — once the dream home of artist Clarence Earle — is for sale.

Chateau Wyuna, an award-winning property at the foothills of the Dandenongs, is for sale via an expression of interest campaign by CBRE Hotels & Hospitality.

The 2.17ha Swansea Rd site includes established gardens, a chapel, heritage log cabin and two level function centre.

It has been hosting weddings for 40 years and was voted the best wedding venue in Australia in 2012 and 2013.

According to the venue’s website, Chateau Wyuna began as the “dream home of Australian artist Clarence Earle”.

“The original buildings were constructed in the early 1900s, inside a loop of the Olinda Creek, in bell bird country, over a period of nine years,” it said.

CBRE senior director of hotels and hospitality Scott Callow said he expected the property to attract a mix of buyers.

Mr Callow said they were happy to talk to buyers about their desires for the site – which could include taking on the land and the business, or just purchasing the land and having the current owners continue to run the business.

“Obviously it’s a very good business and has longstanding goodwill and future bookings attached to that,” he said.

“We’ve certainly had people looking at it with a view of taking over from the current owners and continuing the operations.

“Alternatively the current owners are happy to stay on and run the business if someone purely wants to buy the real estate and invest in that large piece of land.

“We’re happy to talk to buyers and see what their desire is and see if we can find a happy solution between them and the vendors to ensure the existing business and customers are well looked after.”

Mr Callow said the “great multipurpose property” was ideal for weddings but potentially could also be used for a range of other events.
