An aspiring nurse nabbed with almost a kilo of drugs has escaped a conviction because it was for “personal use”.

Lauren Brown, 23, was sentenced in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last week to a 12-month good behaviour bond after pleading guilty to drug possession and assaulting police.

Brown was busted after Croydon Divisional Tasking Unit officers raided the Kalorama house she shared on September 5 last year.

The court was told the residence was a known “drug house”.

Police searched the house and seized a stack of drugs including a large amount of cannabis and 17 bottles of THC oil but not before they were attacked by Brown.

Brown lashed out at two officers kicking and verbally abusing both.

Both officers sustained minor injuries.

Investigators eventually got a hold of Brown and arrested her.

Brown admitted possessing 528g of cannabis and 366gm of THC.

However, Brown escaped the more serious charge of trafficking after claiming the drug haul was for “personal use”.

The court was told Brown had only moved into the house days before the raid.

Brown is now living back with mum and told the court she hopes to be a nurse once her criminal matters are behind her.

Magistrate Mia Stylianou took into account the 71 days Brown spent on remand but spared her a conviction.

“I’ve give you the once in the lifetime opportunity, it means you’re unlikely to get the same opportunity again,” Magistrate Stylianou said.

Brown appeared via videolink with the support of her mother.
