A man has been taken to hospital after a bedroom curtain came alight in a Boronia unit.
Boronia police Sergeant Rhonda Roughley said officers responded to the fire on Dorset Rd, near Olive Grove and the Boronia Residential Aged Care centre at 11.06am on Thursday, July 30.
According to Fire Rescue Victoria, the fire had been contained to a bedroom and extinguished when firefighters arrived minutes later.
All residents had evacuated safely and four FRV crews checked for hot spots and ventilated the area.
Sgt Roughley said police believed the fire could have started after a resident allegedly fell asleep with a lit cigarette nearby, which caused a curtain to come alight.
Paramedics also attended the scene and a 63-year-old man was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
