An elderly man has been rushed to hospital after an alleged ice-affected driver crashed head-on into his car in Boronia.
Knox highway patrol Acting Sergeant Penny Anderson said the crash occurred on Scoresby Rd, near Western Rd, about 9am on May 21.
Acting Sgt Anderson said a 39-year-old Rowville man was driving a blue Holden Vectra when it suddenly veered to the other side of the road and drove over a traffic island.
The man’s car then collided head-on into a green Nissan Pulsar parked at the lights in a right-hand turning lane.
Acting Sgt Anderson said the driver of the Pulsar, an 83-year-old Boronia man, was assessed by paramedics and complained of breathing difficulties and chest pains.
He was taken to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.
Acting Sgt Anderson said the Rowville man was breath-tested at the scene and returned a positive drug test for methamphetamine.
She said the man was taken to Maroondah Hospital to be treated for minor injuries and allegedly refused a blood test.
Acting Sgt Anderson said the man was likely to be charged on summons for alleged offences including refusing the test, driving on the wrong side of the road and careless driving.
