A love letter has finally been delivered from a young boy to his Boronia sweetheart has arrived — more than 40 years after being stuck in the walls of a caravan.
The note was discovered in Perth by Joanne Lockwood who was renovating a newly purchased second-hand caravan when she discovered a letter addressed to Leanne Earneholme from Miller Rd, Boronia.
After demolishing some inner walls, Ms Lockwood and her husband discovered a yellowed envelope hidden inside, which led to a 24-hour social media search.
Not knowing what was inside Ms Lockwood took the mystery letter to Facebook, posting in a number of Melbourne’s outer east noticeboards to try and find Leanne.
The post took off and was shared 428 times, while Ms Lockwood received 46 messages from people trying to help.
And overnight the person – now Leanne Manning – was found and contact was made.
Days later the letter arrived and Mrs Manning said it was a real “blast from the past”.
The letter was from a boy the mother of two had gone to Boronia High School with when they were 13 — in 1976 — but he had moved away.
Mrs Manning said in the letter the boy was sorry he had not written in a long time and had not been able to see her during his visit to Boronia while he was staying with his mother in Burwood.
“I hope you are feeling and looking as good as you always have and just remember we are always best friends,” the boy wrote.
In the letter the boy said he had a photo of his friends on his wall at home and when visitors asked about it he told them it was of his best friends.

“He finishes it with ‘See ya later, love ya’ and 39 hugs and kisses,” she said.
Mrs Manning is now 57 and is married with two adult children.
“It was the sweetest thing,” she said.
“It’s a shame I never received it.”
