Boronia house fire: Police probe suspicious fire in Scoresby Rd

A house has been gutted by fire in Boronia overnight, with more than 60 firefighters called in to battle the suspicious blaze.

A house in Melbourne’s has been gutted by fire overnight.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Scoresby Road in Boronia, just after 11.30pm on Tuesday night.

A police spokeswoman said the fire was being treated as suspicious.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the blaze.

Police are calling for witnesses as they investigate.

A crime scene guard has been put in place and an arson chemist will attend the property on Wednesday to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Almost 60 firefighters were called to the inferno, near the corner of Boronia Rd, after witnesses reported seeing thick smoke and embers rising from the property.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said crews arrived within three minutes of receiving the first call to find the house “well alight”.

“Both FRV and CFA firefighters wearing breathing apparatus conducted an external attack on one side and an internal attack on the other,” the spokesperson said.

“The fire was declared under control just after midnight, twenty five minutes after arriving on scene.”
