Bayswater McDonald’s: Allegedly disqualified motorcyclist injured in crash with car

An allegedly disqualified motorbike rider is in hospital after a crash outside a McDonald’s in Melbourne’s outer east, days after police impounded his car.

Two allegedly disqualified and unregistered motorcyclists have been flung off their bikes and into hospital following separate crashes in Knox.

Knox highway patrol Leading Senior Constable Andrew Trace said a 40-year-old male rider from Boronia collided with a blue Ford on Canterbury Rd in Bayswater about 1.50pm on June 25

The rider was travelling west towards Kilsyth when he collided with the car, which was leaving the suburb’s McDonald’s restaurant and in the process of making a right turn.

Leading Sen-Constable Trace said the rider’s white bike did not have number plates and was unregistered.

He said the rider was disqualified from driving, and officers had picked up the man two days earlier and impounded his car.

Leading Sen-Constable Trace said the rider was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition, and had sustained a broken arm and lacerations to his legs in the crash.

He said the rider and the driver of the blue Ford, a 21-year-old Croydon man, would be questioned over the crash at a later date.

Meanwhile, another rider allegedly flew 20m in the air when he collided with a car outside Mountain Gate Shopping Centre in Ferntree Gully on June 23.

Leading Sen-Constable Trace said the rider was travelling west along Ferntree Gully Rd when he crashed into a brown ute which was turning into the shopping centre, about 5.40pm.

The 32-year-old Pakenham man was thrown from his blue bike before landing heavily on the road and sliding into a parked car.

Leading Sen-Constable Trace said the rider suffered “several broken bones” and was taken to The Alfred Hospital, where he remained on Saturday in a stable condition.

He said the rider would be interviewed after his release from hospital, and the bike was allegedly unregistered and had false number plates.

Leading Sen-Constable Trace said the two crashes were timely reminders for riders and drivers to be wary of each other on the roads.

Anyone with dashcam footage of either incident or any witnesses can contact Knox highway patrol officers on 9881 7900.
