Accused Bayswater North drug kingpin Jamie Burchell charged with trafficking ecstasy and meth

An accused drug kingpin was allegedly nabbed with ecstasy, meth, cash and a stack of guns at a Bayswater North property.

A heavily tattooed Wantirna man will fight allegations he is a gun-toting eastern suburbs crime lord who peddled ecstasy, meth, cocaine and ketamine.

Jamie Burchell, 39, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after he was charged with 37 offences including trafficking a commercial quantity of ecstasy.

Burchell was arrested after police raided a Bayswater North property on June 2 this year.

Police allegedly seized ecstasy, meth, cocaine, ketamine, cash and swag of guns including a loaded sawn-off shotgun said to be in Burchell’s possession at the time.

Burchell also allegedly attempted to manufacture firearms and was nabbed with $11,240 believed to be the proceeds of crime.

Burchell was also accused of trafficking cocaine, ketamine, GHB-mirror 1,4 butanediol and cannabis in an alleged racket police described as a “complex criminal syndicate operating in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne”.

Burchell, who was also charged with possessing valium, Xanax and dexamphetamine, is also accused of stealing a $200,000 Mercedes Benz.

Burchell, from Wantirna, was also accused of thieving a $70,000 Lifestyle camper trailer allegedly stolen from Camping Adventures Carrum Downs on May 29 this year.

Burchell, who was on bail at the time of his arrest, was also accused of destroying a Victoria Police master copy record of interview disks valued at $3.

Croydon divisional tasking unit members carried out the raid.

Police reports estimated the alleged drugs seized were valued at more than $100,000 with the total bust coming in a tick over $400,000.

Burchell, who is contesting charges, will face court again for a committal on December 3.
