The man struck up a conversation with the woman before he exposed himself and performed a lewd act.

The woman yelled at the man and approached the driver before the man left the tram at Plenty Rd, Bundoora.

Senior Constable Andrew Levey said police had an excellent record solving sexual offences on the public transport network due to CCTV cameras and information from the public.

“No one deserves to feel unsafe or uncomfortable when travelling on public transport,” Sen-Constable Levey said.

“This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and we will do all we can to hold the correct person accountable.

“We encourage everyone who sees, or is victim to, an offence to come forward.”

The man is described as caucasian, about 175cm tall and aged 20 to 25 years old. He has dark brown hair, a beard and a medium build.

He was wearing a dark long sleeve top, pink shorts, a light-coloured baseball cap and black and white shoes.
