A young mum has allegedly ripped off businesses by manipulating Eftpos machines into giving her refunds instead of taking payments from her.

Tykeisha Beasley has also been accused of aggravated burglary, making a threat to kill, forging prescriptions, making false documents, stealing cars, mail, bank cards and has repeatedly been caught with drugs, weapons and stolen goods.

The 22-year-old mum-of-five fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 27, having been arrested while on bail for more than 70 outstanding charges.

Beasley was arrested on Sunday, July 26, after a woman allegedly saw Beasley riding her mountain bike and wearing her helmet, which had just been stolen.

Beasley allegedly had medical prescriptions in other names when police found her out at 3.10am, breaching her bail curfew.

The court heard Beasley had allegedly forced her way into a garage on Newton St, Reservoir, and stole a woman’s bike and helmet on July 23 while the woman was upstairs in the house.

Beasley was on bail for numerous matters at the time, including when she allegedly got thousands of dollars out of businesses by giving herself illegitimate refunds.

The Jacana woman allegedly siphoned $1000 out of Reservoir’s Gellibrand Milkbar on June 17, 2019 when pretending to buy cigarettes.

Beasley allegedly manipulated the Eftpos machine into giving her multiple $250 refunds instead of taking her payment.

She allegedly acted like her payments weren’t going through, hiding the refund receipts from the staff member.

She allegedly got $850 out of Reservoir Massage and Waxing on September 4 by doing the same thing when she pretended to buy a gift card.

She returned to the business on September 7 asking to buy another gift card and was confronted by the staff member, pushing him to get away.

Beasley then robbed Darebin RSL sub-branch of $850 by stealing a refund card from the drawers at reception on December 3 and giving herself a $250 refund, then returning the next day to giver herself another $600 refund, the court heard.

When she was allegedly caught stealing tools from an apartment being renovated in Melbourne with her boyfriend on August 19, she allegedly threatened to kill the tradies who confronted her, saying she had a knife.

The court heard Beasley was also accused of committing an aggravated burglary in Thornbury on January 29, and was also on bail for several vehicle thefts, stealing credit cards and using them, running from police and for being found with knives, a hammer, stolen number plates and various drugs.

Police argued Beasley was an unacceptable risk of offending and should be remanded in custody.

Her lawyer, Sophie Brooks-Miller, told the court Beasley was an Indigenous woman who had an intellectual disability and was 13 weeks pregnant with her sixth child.

Ms Brooks-Miller said Beasley had spent 106 days in custody until February, and that conditions in custody would be more onerous for her client than for others.

Magistrate Michael McNamara agreed, releasing Beasley with a curfew and banning her from seeing her co-accuseds.
