TRUCKS could be banned from using one of Banyule’s most congested roads during certain times if the Liberals are re-elected in November.
State Roads Minister Terry Mulder and Ivanhoe Liberal candidate Carl Ziebell this afternoon pledged $275,000 to investigate truck curfews and other solutions to reduce problems plaguing major arterial Rosanna Rd, which provides a link from the north to the Eastern Freeway.

The investigations will consider changing turning signals, improving skid resistance, turn restrictions, aligning intersections, sign and line-marking works and lighting improvements.
Congestion and safety issues on Rosanna Rd were hot topics at Banyule’s Metropolitan Transport Forum earlier this year with Ivanhoe Labor MP Anthony Carbines and Greens candidate Paul Kennedy supporting a truck curfew.

Mr Mulder said a Liberal Government would form a working group with residents group Resolve Rosanna Road, Banyule Council, traders, VicRoads and transport companies to identify solution to the traffic issues.
Mr Ziebell said the road carried about 32,000 vehicles, including a high volume of trucks, each day.
“East West Link will help reduce congestion and truck traffic on Rosanna Rd but we can and will do more,” Mr Ziebell said.

Resolve Rosanna Road member Mario Panaccio said the Liberals preparing to spend money on investigating the issues along Rosanna Rd was excellent, but he would like to see some short-term solutions.
