LONG-TIME Thornbury resident Denise Scott’s new show proved to be the mother of all performances this year.
Titled Mother Bare, Scott’s hilarious and self-deprecating look at motherhood through alcohol-clouded glasses took out the prestigious Barry Award for best show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

The Barry Award, named after MICF founding patron Barry Humphries, has recognised the festival’s most outstanding show since 1998.
This was Scott’s fourth nomination for the top award, with more than 15 MICF’s under her belt.
Best Newcomer was awarded to South Yarra resident Stella Young, who had audiences rolling in the aisles with laughter during her season at the Northcote Town Hall with Tales from the Crip.
In her show, Young dispels myths about disability and makes “normies” or “walkies” — able-bodied people — take a look at themselves and the way they behave when they meet someone who is physically different.
