RESIDENTS have named and shamed Hume’s worst hoon hot spots.

It comes after Leader recently reported on the frustration of Craigieburn Rd resident Shirley Gauci, who is fed up with hoons frequenting a car wash opposite her home after hours.

Fellow residents have exposed other hoon hangouts.

Regina Smiley told the Hume Leader Facebook page the service lane on Pascoe Vale Rd in Broadmeadows was a haven for hoons, especially kids speeding on dirt bikes without helmets or protective gear.

Others popular spots listed included Spring St in Tullamarine and David Munroe Drive in Roxburgh Park.

In Craigieburn, Grand Blvd, Aitken Blvd, Windrock Ave, Hothlyn Drive and Hanson Rd were all nominated as hot spots.

Hothlyn Drive resident Dominic White said he feared one wrong move would send a car through his front window.

He said the screeches could be heard up and down the street every night from 9pm.

“It’s just getting ridiculous, it drives us insane,” Mr White said.

“One night in particular they were doing doughnuts outside. I just got my son to sleep … (they) lost it a bit and started directing towards the house.”

He said the carpark at nearby Craigieburn South Primary School was also hit constantly by drivers doing burnouts, and has called on police to boost their patrols.

Craigieburn Senior Sergeant Glenn Parker said the ongoing behaviour was disappointing.

“There’s little consideration for local residents, there’s little consideration for the harm it can cause when it all goes wrong and in some cases, it will,” he said.

“People just need to check their behaviour when they’re behind the wheel of a motor vehicle and consider others.”

He said significant work was under way by Fawkner Highway Patrol and general police units to address the issue.

Broadmeadows Senior Sergeant Geri Porter said Aerolink Drive in Tullamarine and Barry Rd in Campbellfield’s industrial estate were also major hoon hot spots, particularly for P-platers.

“(It’s disappointing) especially with the current hoon legislation (that) people are still taking the risk of losing their cars,” she said.

She said road trauma was a priority for police.
