Teens arrested for attempted robbery after forcing motorist to drive with scissors

A young man has escaped injury after he was allegedly held up by three teens at scissor-point and forced to drive to Craigieburn Central shopping centre, while another man had to be rescued from an unusual sleeping spot.

A young man has escaped injury after he was allegedly held up by three teens at scissor-point and forced to drive to Craigieburn Central shopping centre. The 20-year-old was in Anzac Park on Aitken Blvd about 9.30pm on September 18 when he was confronted by four teenage boys. Hume Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Gipp said the boys grabbed the man from behind, threatened him with a pair of scissors and demanded his possessions.

“They then jumped in the victim’s car and made him drive to Craigieburn Central shopping centre,” Sen-Sgt Gipp said. When they arrived at the shopping centre, the 20-year-old took on the quartet and there was a short scuffle before the would-be robbers ran away.

Sen-Sgt Gipp said police arrested three 17-year-old boys nearby a short time later. They were all interviewed and released and are expected to be charged on summons with attempted armed robbery. Police are still hunting the fourth offender.

GREENVALE

Thousands of dollars of power tools and a Ford ute have been stolen from a house in Greenvale. The victims — all young men — were asleep upstairs when a burglar climbed the back fence and broke into the garage of their Dufton Court home in the early hours of September 22.

Hume Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Gipp said the crook stole a significant amount of power tools from vehicles before they ventured into the house and found a wallet and car keys. They drove off in one of the tenant’s 2003 Ford Falcon ute. It was later found burnt out in Westmeadows.

A BMW has been torched after an argument between two people in Craigieburn. A witness saw the pair arguing near the silver BMW parked in Fletcher Rd about 3.50pm on September 22. About 20 minutes later the car was set on fire and destroyed.

Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Gipp said the car was stolen from a house in Craigieburn.

OAK PARK

Firefighters were called to a unique rescue when a man was spotted lying down on the roof of a building in Oak Park on September 22.

When firefighters climbed onto the roof of the house under construction they found the man not injured but fast asleep. The fireys saved the man from his “unusual predicament” and returned him to safety.

PASCOE VALE SOUTH

Police are asking for help to find Guang Ming Lu. The 37-year-oldwas last seen on Parkstone Ave in Pascoe Vale South about midday on August 25.

He was living in Southbank and is described as being of medium build, 175cm tall with short dark hair and brown eyes.

His family, as well as police, hold concerns as they say it is unlike him not to make contact with them. Anyone with information is urged to contact Melbourne East police station on 9637 1100.
