A “kind-hearted” young man is being remembered after he was killed in a car crash, just months before he was due to be married.

Taha Hojok crashed into a pole on Settlement Rd and died at the scene on the evening of October 31, days before his 25th birthday.

His wedding to his partner Razan was scheduled for February and the couple had just bought a house the week before his death.

Mr Hojok was the son of Mohamed and Nadima, brother of Abdullah, Mal, Nasser, Rabi, Aida and Rayyan.

He was a student at Bundoora Secondary College.

Danial Gyftakis, Mr Hojok’s brother-in-law, said he was known for bringing people together.

“Taha was very, very well known in the community and he brought a lot of people together from all different backgrounds,” Mr Gyftakis said.

“He was very much an outgoing person.”

He was known for his love of cars and bikes, often riding motorbikes or driving with family and friends.

“He loved spending time outdoors, whether it be on his motorbike or spending time with his family, camping or four-wheel driving,” Mr Gyftakis said.

“He brought a lot of joy and a lot of happiness to all his friends and family.”

Mr Gyftakis said the funeral for Mr Hojok last week in Bundoora had a “huge” attendance.

“People from all walks of life paid their respects to him,” he said.

The community has rallied around Mr Hojok’s family, raising $38,000 through a GoFundMe campaign for a memorial to be built in his name.

Bryce Kelly, Mr Hojok’s friend, posted on Facebook that he was “one of the funniest, most kind-hearted, selfless people [he’d] ever met.”

“A bloke that, when he would walk into a room, it was like the sun shining through the clouds,” Mr Kelly said.

Victoria Police said the investigation into Mr Hojok’s death was ongoing.
