A TV production studio in Brunswick has been nominated for five Antenna Awards.

Stupid Old Studios is a finalist in five categories at the Channel 31 awards for their show Australia, Get It Up Ya!

It is in the running to win program of the year, best comedy program, outstanding direction

of a program (Evan Munro-Smith), outstanding camera work (Evan Munro-Smith) and best

actor in a narrative drama, comedy or sketch (Andy Matthews).

Despite the show being made in 2015 it is only now receiving the recognition because the Antenna Awards haven’t been held for five-years.

“We filmed it in 2015 and our intention was to go around to all the capital cities in Australia and film sketches,” director, writer and performer Bec Petraitis said.

“We flew to every city and even spent time travelling up and down the east coast of Australia.”

Ms Petraitis, 28, said the crew of five people had to make significant adjustments from their day jobs.

“The joke is what do you get when you make two engineers, a journalist, a salesman and a youth services worker travel around Australia, and the answer is this comedy show,” Petraitis said.

“But the feedback we got was amazing, Evan Munro-Smith is such a gun and so good he made the show look amazing.

“We had people saying to us they thought the show was on commercial TV.”

Petraitis said one of the funniest moments on tour was when they drove out from Adelaide to the middle of nowhere to find a salt flat.

They were going to record a sketch about someone setting the land speed record but lost their car keys and thought it was the end of them and the show.

The show, which consists of six episodes, was partially funded by a crowd-funding campaign and was produced on a tiny budget of just $25,000.

The awards are being held on October 5.
