YAN Yean state Labor MP Danielle Green says dirty tricks will not work in the lead up to the state election after she was the target of an anonymous leaflet distributed in the marginal seat.
State Parliament is investigating the unlawful use of the Parliament of Victoria Crest in the pamphlet, while Ms Green has also registered a complaint with the Victorian Electoral Commission.
The leaflet relates to the issue of abortion, with Ms Green saying it was intended to harm her chances of re-election in November.
“These sorts of dirty trick campaigns will not work in Yan Yean,’’ Ms Green said.
“Our community will not stand for it. The leaflet is untrue and utterly offensive to me and all women.”
Speaker Christine Fyffe and Legislative Council president Bruce Atkinson expressed concern about the use of the crest.
They said the crest could not be used for party or political purposes and have launched an investigation into the matter.
Unauthorised use of the crest is subject to penalty under the Unauthorised Documents Act 1958.
