NORTHCOTE started the Premier Cricket season in style on Saturday, romping to an eight-wicket victory against Kingston Hawthorn.
Playing coach Steve Taylor (3-19), Joel Hamilton (2-21) and debutant Roby Lane (2-35) were the heroes with the ball as the Hawks collapsed from 0-55 to be all out for 121 in 38.5 overs.

After being asked to bat on their home deck, Kingston Hawthorn made a promising start through openers Ramneet Dhindsa (33 from 34 balls) and Luke Heath (16).
The first signs of trouble were evident when Dhindsa was trapped lbw by Taylor, but at 2-81 the Hawks were well placed to build a competitive total.
The home side progressed to 3-93 before Taylor produced a run out to remove Shorye Chopra (7) and spark a collapse of 7-28.
The Dragons motored to 2-122 in 21.4 overs in reply as opener Mark Phelan (45 not out) and no.4 batsman Josh Sundberg (39 not out) shared an unbroken 91-run third-wicket stand.
Recruit Jonty Rushton gave Northcote a fast start by blazing 17 off eight balls, but Kingston Hawthorn had hope when the ex-Ringwood player and Taylor (4) went in quick succession.
Phelan and Sundberg swiftly put the match back on the Dragons’ terms, hitting regular boundaries to lead their side to an emphatic Round 1 triumph.
Northcote sits top of the ladder after the opening round and next takes on Fitzroy Doncaster away from home this weekend.
The Round 2 fixture starts at 11am at Doncaster’s Schramms Reserve.
