NORTHCOTE Park eased its relegation fears with a 35-point Northern Football League win against Whittlesea on Saturday.

The match shaped as the Eagles chance to score their first win of the season with Northcote Park battling to snap a four-game losing streak.

But the Cougars controlled the game from start to finish to score their second win of the campaign and make Whittlesea’s fight for survival tougher.

Eltham was beaten by reigning premiers Bundoora, managing just three goals after quarter-time as the Bulls overcame a sluggish start to score a 38-point win.

In other Division 1 results, Heidelberg toppled Greensborough to return to the top of the ladder, Lower Plenty beat Macleod with the help of two goals from former AFL player Campbell Brown and Macleod smashed West Preston-Lakeside.

The Roosters will be desperate to bounce back against Bundoora in a top-four clash this weekend.

In Division 2, North Heidelberg enhanced its claims to white-hot premiership favouritism with a 100-point thumping of Mernda.

Lalor, Fitzroy Stars and Diamond Creek also won, but it was the Dogs who barked loudest to open a two-game buffer at the top of the ladder.

Few will envy Hurstbridge, which faces the unbeaten ladder leaders on Saturday.

Reservoir used the humiliation of its Round 3 hiding at the hands of Thomastown as motivation in its 10-point win over the Bears.

Ash Flavel booted five goals and David McGregor snagged four as the Mustangs became the first team to beat Thomastown this year 14.17 (101) to 13.13 (91).

Reservoir coach Ross Terranova refused to buy into suggestions his side would now be recognised as premiership favourites.

“What we want to do is finish top-two and give ourselves every opportunity,” Terranova said.

“By no means do we think we’re the standout team, Thomastown got within 10 points on Saturday so they’re still the favoured side.”

South Morang trumped Heidelberg West by 42, while St Mary’s overcame Parkside by 52 in a near-perfect preparation to face Reservoir away on Saturday.
