GLENROY is still clinging to hope of playing finals but is if fully aware every game from here is a must-win.
The Roys took down Craigieburn by 23 points on Saturday to make for consecutive wins after an important six-point victory over Westmeadows a week earlier in the Essendon District Football League’s Division 1 competition.
The results have left the Roys just four points outside of the top-four heading into the final five rounds of the season.
Glenroy president Jason Leffanue said the club still had finals in its sights but it would need to keep winning to be any chance of making the cut.
“I don’t think we can afford to really drop any more games,” he said.
Glenroy has a softer few weeks ahead, with matches against Hillside, Oak Park and Hadfield.
But their season could come down to the final two rounds in which they will tackle top-two sides West Coburg and Tullamarine.
The run home may have to be played out without the help of key forward Aaron Kite, who has missed the side’s past two matches and may not play again this year after suffering a hamstring injury in Round 11.
“We hope we get him back towards the end but we don’t know how long he’s going to be out,” Leffanue said.
“He’s a big loss but in saying that we didn’t have him against Westmeadows and we won so we seemed to cover him.”
