DVCA 2019-20: Bundoora hammers Rosanna by 100 runs

After an outright loss in the opening round of the season, Bundoora showed it is no easybeat with a thumping win on Saturday as its captain-coach fired with bat and ball.

Bundoora captain-coach Jason Kaminski dismantled Rosanna’s batting line-up on Saturday as his team kick-started its DVCA Barclay Shield campaign.

After an outright loss against Diamond Creek in the opening-round, the Bulls responded with a 100-run triumph.

Kaminski scored a crucial 49 at No.8 after Bundoora slipped to 6-49 on day one, combining with Lachlan Smart (55) for what proved a match-winning 96-run stand.

After steering the visitors to a competitive 171, the paceman sent down 20 overs straight and returned superb figures of 6-33 as Rosanna was rolled for a paltry 71 in 44.1 overs.

“I think we just bowled like we know we can, and just made them try to score runs and play shots that probably weren’t there,” Kaminski said.

“It was a big plus for us just knowing we can do that, like (last season’s grand finalists) Diamond Creek and Macleod can.”

Rosanna reached 0-24 before Kaminski claimed the key wicket of opposition skipper and opener Nick Carlton LBW for six.

He then removed top-four batsmen Nick Horsford (two) and Scott Dunbar (six) cheaply to reduce the home side to 4-38.

Rosanna never recovered, with Narinder Sharma (3-20) and Callan Jones (1-1) the other wicket-takers.

“I just kept bowling outside off-stump and waiting for them to make a mistake,” Kaminski said.

“Getting Nick out early on helped and sort of got the tail up a bit.

“He’s probably one of their best bats, we kept sticking to our plans, and it worked out in the end.”

Bundoora resumed at 6-124 after losing 5-18 on the opening day, with Smart and Kaminski piling on quick runs early.

“I thought it was a pretty good score,” Kaminski said.

“We came out and put on 30-40 runs early and I thought anything over 160 would be a good score.

“To bat 80 overs was very pleasing in the end.”

Riverside (8-201) was the only other winner in Round 2 after knocking off Lower Eltham (186) by 15 runs.

Heidelberg (189) and Epping (7-173) shared the points, along with Diamond Creek (199) and North Eltham Wanderers (6-108).

Plenty (263) was on top of reigning premier Macleod (3-72) before rain intervened.
