DAREBIN Falcons coach Richard Dal Pos had some concerns entering his side’s match against Eastern Devils on Saturday.
His side had lost its first game since 2012 two weeks earlier and was coming up against a Devils outfit that boasted a 3-0 record and sat on top of the ladder.
He needn’t have worried.
The Falcons got their “mojo back” as they posted their second three-figure win in as many weeks with a 14.18 (102) to 0.2 (2) belting at Wangaratta’s Norm Minns Oval.
Dal Pos could not have asked for more.
“It was a great game on a very big ground, which I was worried about,” he said.
“However we handled the size of the ground much better. Our defence was superb.
“Everyone talks about our mids and our forwards but the score doesn’t really translate to the nature of the game. The ball was going to and fro between both forward lines consistently and our backline, it was one of the best games I’ve seen them play to be honest.”
The Falcons had three unanswered goals on the board in the opening 12 minutes and did not look back.
By three-quarter time the margin had ballooned to 70 points before Darebin finished off its good work in the final term.
Captain Daisy Pearce — a former Bright local — was the star, producing “a cracker of a game” through the midfield.
Jessica Dal Pos and Darcy Vescio also impressed, while Katie Brennan booted four goals up forward to take her season tally to 16 majors from four matches.
Dal Pos said he hoped his side would continue its good form against a St Kilda Sharks which overcame Melbourne University on the weekend.
The Mugars are the team which knocked off Darebin a fortnight ago.
“I said to the girls if we don’t come to play most weeks, we’re probably going to be looking at a loss,” Dal Pos said. “Whoever’s not prepared will be in trouble.”
