BUNDOORA is expected to confirm premiership coach Phil Plunkett’s reappointment for 2015 this week.

Bulls football manager Darryl Richards said Plunkett appeared certain to lead the club for another Northern Football League season.

Applications for the Bulls’ coach role closed on Monday.

“We have a constitutional process in that we have to advertise for coaches every year,” Richards said.

“We’re going through that process at the moment.

“But if I was a betting man, (I’d say) there’ll be no change to the coaching staff.”

Plunkett led Bundoora to last season’s Division 1 premiership, but the Bulls were unable to defend their crown after being bundled out in an elimination final by Macleod this year.

Meanwhile, star forward Gary Moorcroft is set to prolong his career by another season.

Richards said the 38-year-old, who booted 68 goals in 17 games this year, was destined to play on.

“He’s 38 but he plays like a 25-year-old,” he said.

“No doubt (he’ll play again).

“His goalkicking is paramount for our forward line and he’s come second in the competition goalkicking.

“He came second last year and he won it the year before. He keeps getting the goals for us and for a forward pocket to kick 60-plus goals each year, we’ll have that every day of the week.”

The club started its recruiting push the day after it was knocked out of the premiership race and will scour most Victorian competitions in an effort to challenge for next year’s flag.

“I started two weeks ago, the day after we lost,” Richards said.

“We’re looking at some VFL players, players playing in other competitions and we’re talking to players from within this competition.”

Richards said the Bulls were likely to turn over about 10 players from their 2014 squad.

“We try and turn our list over by about 10 players every year,” Richards said.

“We didn’t do that this year because we thought we had the playing group to see us to back-to-back.

“Injuries throughout the year put paid to that and lack of depth. This year we’ll go back to the original process and start bringing some fresh blood into the place.”
