BROADFORD will remain a Riddell District Football League club for at least the 2015 season after its plan to move to the Kyabram District Football League hit a wall.
In a meeting of members in early September, the Kangaroos voted 34-23 in favour of pursuing a switch to the KDFL and applied to the country league to join its ranks.
But the application was rejected by the KDFL’s clubs and at an RDFL presidents meeting last night Broadford moved to withdraw its application to leave the RDFL, which was accepted by the league.
RDFL boss and AFL Goldfields regional general manager Rod Ward said the league was happy to have the Kangaroos back.
“The fact that the KDFL rejected their application meant that they needed a home and to stay in the RDFL was the obvious home,” he said.
“We’re delighted to have them as part of the competition in 2015 and we’ll be meeting with them in the near future to assess what we can do to assist them have a strong and viable future.”
Broadford joined the RDFL in 2008 from the Heathcote District Football League, which along with the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League was also considered as a potential home for next season.
The Kangaroos finished ninth on the RDFL ladder this year with a record of 5-11.
