School mourns family killed in Christchurch terror attacks
The Al Siraat College community in Epping say they have received an outpouring of support following the Christchurch terror attacks in which family members were killed.

Tears were shed and community bonds strengthened when the Whittlesea Mayor, politicians and police joined with the Al Siraat College community in the wake of the Christchurch terror attacks.
Hundreds of people gathered at the school in Epping last Monday to support one another and grieve for victims of the attack, including three relatives of college families who were killed or injured.

Attack victim Sohail Shahid, whose family members attend the college, was remembered as an intelligent man who moved to New Zealand last year.
A statement issued by the college said he would be remembered as “the perfect son”. “He was hard working and leaves behind two young daughters and his inconsolable wife,” the statement said.

Al Siraat College mufti Aasim Rashid told people at the assembly the attacks were “not representative of any race or faith”.
“These acts are committed to divide people. But you will see in the aftermath the whole world is with us, they are supporting us,” he said.
Mayor Lawrie Cox said the terror attacks had “strengthened” Whittlesea’s bond with the Islamic community.
A parent of an Al Siraat College student who did not want to be named said they had been “overwhelmed” by the solidarity they felt from people in Whittlesea.
“(There have been) so many messages of love and compassion,” the parent said.
Thomastown state Labor MP Bronwyn Halfpenny and Mill Park state Labor MP Lily D’Ambrosio attended prayer services in Epping on Friday in a further display of solidarity.
