A father from Melbourne’s north has been remembered as the “light in every room” with a “big heart” by heartbroken loved ones after his tragic worksite death.
Ryan Mackinnon, 44, died from his injuries in hospital after a fatal incident at a worksite last week.
The incident happened at a West Melbourne job site on April 29, with Mr Mackinnon passing on May 1.
An online fundraiser — started by friend Glenn Walker — described Mr Mackinnon as someone whose presence “made life warmer, funnier and more meaningful”.
“Ryan was more than a father, son, brother, friend and colleague,” the fundraiser said.
“He gave so much of himself to the people he loved, always showing up with generosity, humour and loyalty. His loss leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
“Despite the best efforts of medical staff and the immense strength Ryan showed, he passed away on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, after fighting courageously in the hospital for two days.”
The fundraiser has raised more than $20,000.
Mr Mackinnon’s loss was felt severely by several communities — including many local sporting clubs — in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
The Essendon Superules over-35’s football team wore black arm bands “in memory of our great mate Ryan” on Sunday.
Likewise the Keilor Park Football Club also posted a tribute on its social media channels.
WorkSafe is investigating the fatal accident.
There have been 15 work related deaths in 2025 so far.
