IF YOU’RE looking for a tasty treat, search no further.

Jess Pelich at Preston Market is one of the very few retailers in Melbourne who sells the Russian doughnuts pirozhki.

Far from your average store-bought doughnuts, the unique treats are traditional to Eastern Europe.

Handmade from a family recipe, Ms Pelich’s doughnuts come deep-fried with savoury and sweet fillings and are nestled among other unusual foods available at the market.

Other foods guaranteed to arch a few brows in curiosity include barbecue jackfruit – the vegan alternative to pulled pork – cured Italian beef bresaola, sugarcane juice and delectable paella.

Preston Market is open Wednesday to Saturday.
