THE Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning approved the cull of 400 Epping kangaroos to clear land for developers, the Australian Society for Kangaroos will allege in the Supreme Court.
Lawyers acting on behalf of the society will the file relevant papers to the court “as soon as possible”, spokeswoman Fiona Corke said.
She claimed there was enough evidence to warrant the fresh allegations.
“The desire to be able to better sell off land for development is not a relevant consideration when making a decision under the Wildlife Act in Victoria,” Ms Corke said. The department ordered the cull back in July but backed off after protesters intervened.
The Australian Society for Kangaroos issued legal proceedings in October challenging the cull.
The case is set for a full trial in the Supreme Court on June 25, 2018.
