A father of six was nabbed with an arsenal of illegal weapons by heavily armed police after a cleaner found “drug paraphernalia” at a Reservoir Airbnb, a court has heard.
Nabeel Hirmiz, 42, was denied bail in the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on January 17 after he was charged with multiple offences including two counts of having an unregistered handgun.
Hirmiz was arrested by Special Operations Group police at a Hillside residence on January 16.
Police allegedly found several firearms including a double-barrel shotgun, a longarm, a handgun, two imitation guns, a homemade pen pistol, ammunition and a bag of meth.
Hirmiz denied any knowledge of the firearms and said the meth is “probably not” meth.
The SOG raid came after North West Metro Crime Squad detectives identified Hirmiz on CCTV footage obtained from a Reservoir Airbnb.
It’s alleged Hirmiz – who stayed at the Airbnb under a booking using the alias “Andrea Bond” – was captured on CCTV moving a handgun from the front of his pants to the back of his pants.
Detectives identified Hirmiz as he had been a “person of interest” in a drug-trafficking operation.
Police were called after the property’s cleaner discovered drug paraphernalia, and the garage remote was missing on November 9 – the day Hirmiz allegedly checked out.
The Airbnb owner – overseas at the time – remotely accessed the CCTV and handed it to police after allegedly spotting Hirmiz with the gun.
Detective acting-Sergeant Sarah Inglese testified she believed Hirmiz was an unacceptable risk of release because he could “endanger the safety of any person”.
“During this offending, the accused can be seen in a suburban residential street within the community concealing a handgun down the rear of his pants,” she said.
“As the accused has been charged with possessing firearms in the past and having been put before a magistrate on numerous occasions for this type of offending he is aware of the seriousness of firearms offences and the ramifications it can have placing innocent members of the public at risk.”
Hirmiz – who has six children with three women – pleaded for Magistrate Richard Pithouse to give him a chance.
“I have been in this country 23 years and I never been in a violent situation,” Hirmiz said.
“I have never harmed anyone.
“I just want to be with my kids and family.”

Hirmiz was arrested last April after police caught him with a knife, machete, ammunition and a grenade.
He was sentenced last July to ten months’ prison for a single firearms charge, but successfully appealed at the County Court in August and got a suspended sentence and 12-month community corrections order after he convinced a judge he had to look after his mother because she has cancer.
However, Hirmiz last week told Magistrate Pithouse that his mother does not have cancer.
The matter will return to court on February 20.
