Ranvir Singh Indian chef rapist refuses to leave after raping Collingwood sex worker twice

A chef who raped a sex worker at a Collingwood brothel trapped her in the room afterwards because he had “paid for an hour”, with his victim saying she had endured “indescribable pain and suffering” from the “extremely aggressive” attack.

Rape or sexual assault: what do I do now?

An Indian chef brutally raped a sex worker at a Collingwood brothel then refused to leave because he had “paid for an hour”, a jury was told.

Ranvir Singh, 26, faced a County Court plea hearing yesterday after he was found guilty of two charges of rape.

The jury at his trial heard how Singh visited Collingwood brothel Le Boudoir with friends in early 2018.

Singh, in Melbourne on a student visa, seemed intoxicated when he first met his victim, the court heard.

The victim was “uncomfortable” after Singh locked the door and turned off the light in their room.

She said Singh was “rough” and “extremely aggressive immediately”.

The victim tried to resist but Singh became “rougher”.

Singh raped the victim twice, then told her to get back in the bed because the “booking wasn’t over”.

The distraught victim managed to escape the room.

She sought help to have Singh removed but was told to wait until his friend had finished his “session”.

She went back to the room and told Singh to leave but he refused.

Singh said he had “paid for an hour” then prevented the victim from leaving the room.

Singh was charged almost a year after raping his victim.

The victim reported the incident the next day but Singh wasn’t charged until almost a year later.

The victim told yesterday’s plea hearing how she now endured “indescribable pain and suffering”.

Singh, appearing via videolink from Ravenhall, kept his head down while his victim issued him a stark warning.

“It feels as though I am the one being punished, being judged and excluded from society,

silenced into submission,” she said.

“I will not quiet my voice and hold my tongue to ease the conscience of the guilty.

“It may destroy me to speak these words, but hear me now and know that whatever discomfort you may feel will never come close to resembling the cruelty I have experienced first hand.

“Do not shy away from the disturbing truth, as I was granted no such mercy.”

In response, Singh’s lawyer submitted that her client’s offending was at the lower range due to the absence of humiliation or violence.

The court heard Singh was teased at school before moving to Australia to study computers.

He dropped out of that course to study cookery, and was working as a chef at the time of the rapes.

The prosecutor – who submitted the offending wasn’t “fleeting” – said Singh became “more aware of the suffering (the victim) was undergoing”.

Singh, who was found guilty on December 11, still denies raping his victim.

Judge George Georgiou said this is a “problem”.

“He denies the offending and continues to deny the offending,” Judge Georgiou said.

Singh will be sentenced at a later date.
