Ramzy Amine steals from Bunnings Thomastown, Sydney Tools

A young concreter walked out of tool shops in Melbourne’s north with thousands of dollars worth of items under his jacket, fleecing the goods on Facebook. Now he’s been given a “lenient” punishment.

Amine was given a good behaviour bond.

A young concreter who shoplifted more than $2300 worth of tools then sold them on Facebook has managed to get off with a promise to be good.

Ramzy Amine, 20, fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 11, pleading guilty to charges over four incidents from a 12-day crime spree.

Amine, who was 19 at the time, walked out of Bunnings Thomastown with $1559.95 of tools hidden under his jackets and in his pockets on August 27, 2019.

He then targeted Sydney Tools Preston on August 30, smuggling two power drills worth $299 out of the shop.

Three days later he returned to the shop, and despite being challenged by a staff member who asked him to put the items back, got away with another three drills worth $477.

He was caught on CCTV committing the crimes.

When Amine was arrested he told police he had sold the stolen tools on Facebook for $50-$100 each.

The court heard Amine had also run away from phone repair booth iCollection Epping without paying for the work the staff had done on August 21, 2019.

Lawyer Anthony Stewart said Amine had just lost his job before the thefts and was looking to make money.

Magistrate Stephen Ballek agreed to give Amine the “lenient disposition” of a 12-month good behaviour bond for his first time offending.

Mr Ballek also ordered Amine make a $750 to the court fund and pay restitution to Sydney Tools Preston and iCollection Epping.
